CAPT Chekouras assumed command of Amphibious Squadron Seven in March 2024.
CAPT Chekouras is a native of Boulder Creek, CA and was commissioned in the U.S. Navy December 1998 through the University of Nebraska-Lincoln NRTOC program where he also received his Bachelor of Science in Financing. He also earned his Master in Business Administration from Salve Regina University, Newport, RI and JPME Phase I from the Naval War College.
Operationally, his assignments include Damage Control Assistant in USS Ford (FFG 54), Training Officer in USS Roosevelt (DDG 80), Chief Engineer in USS Nitze (DDG 94), Flag Secretary to Commander, Carrier Strike Group Two, and Assistant Chief of Staff (Force Generation, Fleet Scheduling & Fleet Training) to Commander, Seventh Fleet.
Command tours include Commanding Officer, Patrol Coastal Crew Charlie, Commanding Officer, USS Lassen (DDG 82), and Commodore, Destroyer Squadron One.
Ashore assignments include Damage Control Assistant Instructor at Surface Warfare Officer School in Newport, RI, Brach Chief North & East Africa for logistic operations at Special Operations Command Africa in Stuttgart, Germany, and Branch Head, Officer Promotions & Policy to Chief of Naval Personnel (OPNAV N1).
His personal decorations include various personal, unit, campaign, and service awards.
