CDR Caitlin E. Cunningham

EXECUTIVE OFFICER, USS MICHAEL MURPHY (DDG 112)

04 April 2024 CDR Cait Cunningham is a native of Cicero, Indiana. Upon graduation from the University of Colorado in 2008 she was commissioned through the Naval ROTC program.

Her first division officer tour was aboard USS STETHEM (DDG 63) as Electrical Officer and Main Propulsion Officer in Yokosuka, Japan from 2008-2010. She served as Navigator aboard USS PORT ROYAL (CG 73) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii from 2010-2012.

Ashore, Cunningham served at the Naval Academy and taught Advanced Navigation, SWO Practicum, and oversaw all Seamanship and Navigation curriculum as Academics Officer. Concurrent with teaching at USNA, she completed JPME Phase 1 and graduated with honors from the Naval War College with a Master’s Degree in Leadership and National Security and Strategic Studies.

After completing Department Head School, she served as Operations Officer aboard USS HALSEY (DDG 97) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii from 2016-2018. She served as Future Operations Officer and Staff Director at Destroyer Squadron Three One from 2018-2020.

Most recently, CDR Cunningham served as the Department Head Detailer, Strategic Communications and Executive Assistant to PERS-41 from 2020-2023 at Navy Personnel Command in Millington, TN.

Her decorations include one Meritorious Service Medal, five Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and various unit and service medals and ribbons.
