Commander Michael Keating DeLoach is native of Savannah, Georgia. He entered the United States Naval Academy directly after high school and graduated with distinction with a Bachelor of Science in Honors English.
As a first tour division officer onboard USS SIMPSON (FFG 56), he served as Ordnance Officer, Electrical Officer, and Assistant Operations Officer and deployed twice to the Eastern Pacific in support of Counter-Narco Terrorism operations, during which time the ship was responsible for the interdiction of 25 tons of cocaine. As a second tour division officer, he served with RIVERINE SQUADRON ONE as Riverine Security Team leader for Detachment Three, deploying to Southern Iraq in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.
As a department head, he served two tours as Chief Engineer, onboard USS MICHAEL MURPHY (DDG 112) and onboard USS PHILIPPINE SEA (CG 58), deploying to the Persian Gulf and Eastern Mediterranean in support of OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE. Following department head tours he completed a tour as an Olmsted Scholar in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Most recently, he completed a tour as Executive Officer of USS WINSTON S. CHURCHILL (DDG 81).
Currently, he is serving as Executive Officer of NAVAL BEACH UNIT – SEVEN.
His personal decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit, campaign, and service awards. He holds graduate degrees from The Citadel/College of Charleston, Naval Postgraduate School, and Chiang Mai University and speaks Thai, Spanish, and Japanese.
