Master Chief Metcalfe is a native of Riverside, CA and entered the Navy through the Delayed Entry Program. He attended basic training at Recruit Training Command San Diego and Airman Apprentice training at Naval Air Technical Training Center, San Diego in 1988.

His first assignment was to USS INDEPENDENCE (CV-62), V-4 Division and attended Aviation Boatswain Mate Fuels “A” school in Lakehurst, NJ. During deployment, he advanced to ABF3. He was honorably discharged from active duty in 1991.

After a four-year break in service, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sam Houston, TX, graduating as a Combat Medic. He then reported to Fort Benning, GA for duty with the 690th Medical Company (ground ambulance), serving under the 56th Evacuation Battalion, 18th Airborne Corps. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged in 1999.

Upon affiliating with the Navy Reserve in 2001, he served with Navy Hospital Jacksonville, FL and Naval Medical Center Balboa. Subsequently, he served with Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron (MSRON) SIX and FOURTEEN serving as the Headquarters Senior Enlisted Leader.

He’s deployed to support overseas contingency operations OPERATION DESERT SHIELD, SEA DRAGON, BRIGHT STAR, ENDURING FREEDOM, NOBLE EAGLE and combat operations supporting FREEDOM’S SENTINEL. He has operational experience in the C3F, C5F, C6F, and C7F areas of operations.

As a qualified Cultural Workshop Facilitator, he has facilitated Afloat Cultural Workshops supporting Littoral Combat Ships, Destroyers, and Cruiser TRIADs both CONUS and OCONUS, both in-port and underway.

His CMDCS/CMDCM assignments include; NR Cargo Afloat Rig Team ONE, USNS COMFORT (T-AH-20), Navy Operational Support Center Columbus, Georgia, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command Forward Headquarters Qatar/Afghanistan, CTG 56.6, NR Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Korea, and NR Littoral Combat Ship Squadron TWO. His Flag CMC assignments include; NR Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic, NR Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet, where he currently humbly serves as the acting FORCM.

His professional military education includes the New Flag and Senior Executive Training Symposium (NFLEX), USFF Executive Leadership, National Defense University Keystone Course, Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course, U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy, Reserve Senior Enlisted Management, and Executive Medical Department Enlisted Course.

His personal awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2 Awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5 awards), US Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (6 awards), US Army Achievement Medal (2 awards), Army Superior Civilian Service Medal, and various unit awards. He is qualified as an Enlisted Surface Warfare and Expeditionary Warfare Specialist
