Captain Emily Cathey is a native of Statesville, North Carolina, and a 1999 graduate of the United States Naval Academy. She holds a Masters of Arts in Strategic Studies (Northeast Asia region) from the Naval Postgraduate School and a Masters of Science in National Security Strategy from the National War College.
Cathey’s sea duty assignments include tours on USS Cowpens (CG 63), USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67), USS Mitscher (DDG 57), and Carrier Strike Group Eight. She commanded Patrol Coastal Crew Lima, rotationally embarked in USS Squall (PC 7), USS Monsoon (PC 4), and USS Typhoon (PC 5), and commanded USS Independence (LCS 2).
Ashore, Captain Cathey served on the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center Staff, the Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center Staff, and Commander Naval Surface Forces Pacific Staff.
