Master Chief Herbert P. Calilung is a native of Pampanga, Philippines and moved to Guam in 1998. He graduated from George Washington High School in May 2001 and enlisted in July 2001. Upon completion of Recruit training in Great Lakes, Illinois, he reported in Pensacola, Florida for AS “A” School.
Master Chief Calilung’s sea tours include USS CARL VINSON (CVN-70) located in Bremerton, Washington and later homeport shifted to Portsmouth, Virginia for Refueling Complex Overhaul (RCOH), USS NIMITZ (CVN-68) Bremerton/Everett Washington, USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD-6) located in Sasebo, Japan and USS MILIUS (DDG-69) located in Yokosuka, Japan. While deployed, he participated in Operation Iraqi/Enduring Freedom, numerous multi-national/joint exercises including Rim of the Pacific, Talisman Sabre, Noble Mist, SAMA SAMA, MALABAR, Keen Sword and Cobra Gold in support of allied forces from most of US FLEETs area of operations.
His shore tours include Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department (AIMD) Sigonella, Italy, Fleet Readiness Center Southwest Detachment Point Mugu, California, Commander Fleet Air Forward AIMD Atsugi, Japan and Naval Manpower Analysis Center Millington, Tennessee.
Master Chief Calilung is assigned Command Master Chief onboard USS HIGGINS (DDG- 76) forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan.
His personal awards include three Navy Commendation Medals and five Navy Achievement Medals. Additionally, he holds an Associates and Bachelors degree in Professional Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, is a graduate of the CMC/COB Course 24070, Senior Enlisted Academy (Gold Group, Class 210) and a Naval Aviation Enterprise Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt Certified.
