A native of Miami, Florida, Captain Jose A. Roman enlisted in the Navy in 1990 and earned a commission through the Enlisted Commissioning Program.
CPT Roman’s at-sea tours include Auxiliaries Officer, Electrical Officer, and First lieutenant aboard USS ELROD (FFG 55), Operations Officer/Navigator aboard USS TORNADO (PC 14)/US CHINOOK (PC 9), Engineering Officer on USS ROOSEVELT (DDG 80), Executive Officer of MCM Crew Swerve and MCM Crew Conflict and subsequently Comanding Officer of USS CHIEF (MCM 14) and USS ARDENT (MCM 12) in which his Sailors earned the 2009 CNSP Battle “E” award. He also served as Executive Officer LCS CREW102 and as Commanding Officer of USS FREEDOM (LCS 1) where his Sailors earned the 2018 CNSP Battle “E” award and completed the 1st Congressional INSURV inspection for the LCS 1 Variant hulls. He also served as N1/N4 at Commander, Naval Surface and Mine Warfare Development Center (SMWDC). His operational experiences include multiple NATO/U.S. 6th and 5th Fleet deployments in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, Operation ACTIVE ENDEAVOR and Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
His experiences also include operations in U.S. 3rd Fleet and with the U.S. Coast Guard conducting inter-service homeland security operations in support of Operation NOBLE EAGLE to include the Gulf of Mexico.
Ashore he served at the Center for Surface Combat Systems as Gunnery Schools Officer; Commander, Naval Surface Forces Pacific as Force Navigator/SWO Programs Lead; Office of Security Cooperation Iraq at U.S. Central Command as Team Chief; Naval Mine and AntiSubmarine Warfare Command as an ASW/MIW Fleet Assessor/Instructor and as N3 at Commander, Carrier Strike Group ONE embarked on USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70).
CAPT Roman earned a Master’s Degree in Education, graduated from the Joint Combined Warfighting School at the Joint Forces Staff College and qualified Master Training Specialist.
His current assignment is Deputy Commodore at LCSRON ONE.
His decorations include various Campaign, Unit and personal awards, but most proud of his Sailors earning CNSP Battle “E” awards throughout every at sea tour and in command.
