Commander Jared Mallis hails from Taylor, PA. He attended The Pennsylvania State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in History and was commissioned in 2006 through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC). He holds a Master of Business Administration from the Anderson School of Management at The University of New Mexico.

His sea duty included assignments aboard USS DONALD COOK (DDG 75) as the Electrical Officer; USS JOHN L HALL (FFG 32) as the Auxiliaries Officer; and USS NEW YORK (LPD 21) as the Combat Systems Officer, Executive Officer, and the Operations Officer. During his career he has made several deployments around the world from the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Baltic, Black, and Mediterranean Seas as well as Arabian Gulf and Horn of Africa. While on New York they earned the “Battle E” award for operational excellence.

He served ashore as a NROTC instructor at the University of New Mexico, a Requirements Officer for the Chief of Naval Operations under the Director, Expeditionary Warfare (OPNAV N95). During his time at N95 he worked on the Expeditionary Sea Base (ESB) class program as well as various landing craft to include the Ship to Shore Connector, Landing Craft Utility (LCU), and Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) programs. He also served as a Federal Executive Fellow at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS).

Most recently, CDR Mallis served as Executive Officer of USS HOPPER (DDG 70) from April 2022 to November 2023.

His decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal (five awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various campaign, unit, and service awards.
