Captain Holman Agard is a native of Brooklyn, New York and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He enlisted in the Navy in June 1992 as an Engineman and was selected for the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST) program in 1995. He subsequently earned his commission through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) program at Southern University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

CAPT Agard reported for his initial sea assignments as an Officer aboard USS PHILIPPINE SEA (CG 58) as the Strike Officer and Training Officer. He completed his follow-on afloat department head tours as the Operations Officer aboard USS WINSTON S. CHURCHILL (DDG 81) and USS SAN JACINTO (CG 56). His most recent afloat tour was as the Executive Officer and Commanding Officer aboard USS HOPPER (DDG 70). He has deployed to the 5th, 6th, and 7th Fleet Operating Areas in support of several operations to include ENDURING FREEDOM, IRAQI FREEDOM, and NEW DAWN.

Ashore, his assignments include: Training Liaison Officer at Afloat Training Group

(ATG) Mayport, Florida; Operations Officer at ATG Norfolk; Information Operations

Planner at the Joint Information Operations Warfare Center. CAPT Agard completed two individual deployments in support of the Joint Special Operations Command within the Central Command Operating Area. He also served as the Executive Assistant to the Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command and Combined Maritime Force Commander. Following his time in NAVCENT, CAPT Agard was selected to the Secretary of Defense’s Strategic Thinkers Program – an academic fellowship resident in Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, achieving a Master’s Degree in International Public Policy. He most recently completed a tour on the OPNAV staff as the Destroyers Branch Head in OPNAV N96.

Agard is entitled to wear the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3x), Joint Service Commendation Medal (2x), as well as several other personal, unit and campaign awards.
