CAPT Drew Borovies is native to Washington, D.C., and raised in Springfield, Virginia. He attended Virginia Tech as a member of the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps program and Corps of Cadets and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. He was commissioned following graduation in December 2000.

CAPT Borovies will assume command of USS LAKE ERIE (CG 70) in late 2024. CAPT Borovies served at sea onboard USS CHOSIN (CG 65) as Communications Officer and First Division Officer, USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) as First and Third Division Officers, USS INGRAHAM (FFG 61) as Operations Officer, DESTROYER SQUADRON 21 as Training, Tactics, and Future Operations Officer (N5/N7), and Executive Officer onboard USS CAPE ST. GEORGE (CG 71). At sea CAPT Borovies served as Commanding Officer of USS TULSA (LCS 16) and USS OMAHA (LCS 12). He has deployed numerous times to the Arabian Gulf and the Pacific to include support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and PACIFIC PARTNERSHIP 2010.

Ashore CAPT Borovies most recently served as a Military Assistant for the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Acquisition. He also served as a Military Community and Family Policy Action Officer on the staff of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Manpower & Reserve Affairs), as a resident student at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, where he earned a Master of Science degree in Modeling, Virtual Environments, and Simulation, and Chief Staff Officer, Littoral Combat Ship Squadron ONE.

CAPT Borovies’ personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), the Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), the Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and numerous campaign and unit awards.
