Captain John Loomis is a graduate of the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering and a Master of Science in Network Operations and Technology from Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, California.


His initial assignments following training were as Deck and Engineering Division Officer aboard USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) and Officer in Charge of Mobile Security Detachment 31 (MSD 31) in San Diego, California. He continued his Naval Service in the Reserves as the Training Officer aboard Third Fleet Maritime Air Operations (MAO) located at 12th Air Force, Combined Air Operations Center in Tucson, Arizona.

Upon acceptance into the Training and Administration of the Reserve (TAR) community, Captain Loomis attended Surface Warfare Officer Department Head course with follow-on tours as the Weapons and Combat Systems Officer aboard USS Bunker Hill (CG 52). He served as Manpower Requirements Officer at OPNAV, N96 Surface Warfare Division, Manpower and Training Branch and returned to sea as Executive Officer aboard USS Bunker Hill (CG 52). He then served as Chief Staff Officer, Coastal Riverine Group ONE and then as Commanding Officer of USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53). Captain Loomis was assigned to OPNAV N0959, Reserve Surface Requirements prior to accepting orders as Commanding Officer USS Princeton (CG 59).

His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal, Carrier Strike Group One 2012 Tactician of the Year, recipient of the Surface Navy Association 2012 Admiral Arleigh Burke Award for Operational Excellence, and various unit and campaign awards.
