Captain Aaron DeMeyer graduated in 2000 from the United States Naval Academy, where he studied Naval Architecture. In 2016, he earned a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School.
At sea, Aaron commissioned USS HOWARD (DDG 83) in 2001 as the anti-submarine warfare officer. He then served as navigator aboard USS RENTZ (FFG 46) from 2002-2004, and weapons officer and combat systems officer aboard USS NORMANDY (CG 60) from 2007-2010. From 2015-2019, he served as executive officer and commanding officer of USS RAFAEL PERALTA (DDG 115). He has conducted a counter-narcotics deployment in support of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s first circumnavigation of Africa. DeMeyer provided force air-defense for two carrier strike groups, deployed to Haiti in support of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, commissioned two warships, and conducted weapons system testing with advanced missile systems.
Ashore, Aaron served as flag aide to Commander, Naval Surface Force, Atlantic. He served as cruiser/destroyer placement officer and assistant surface officer community manager/metrics analyst while assigned to Commander, Navy Personnel Command, and surface warfare officer community manager for the Bureau of Naval Personnel. In October 2021, Aaron was assigned to the Joint Staff Strategy, Plans, and Policy Directorate (J5), where he served as Principal Division Chief for Middle East Policy, Team Chief for the Russia/Ukraine Crisis Management Team, and Missile Defense Policy Division Chief.
Aaron has been awarded the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), as well as various personal, unit, and service decorations.
