Captain Robert C. Tryon, a native of North Attleboro, Massachusetts, graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He earned a Master of Science in Information Systems and Operations from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, and a Master of Art in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.
His sea-duty assignments include division officer tours aboard USS CARR (FFG 52) as Combat Information Center Officer and USS STOUT (DDG 55) as Fire Control Officer. As a department head, he served aboard USS SAN ANTONIO (LPD 17) as Operations Officer and then as Operations and Plans Officer for Commander, AMPHIBIOUS SQUADRON FIVE embarked aboard USS BOXER (LHD 4). He was the Executive Officer and then Commanding Officer of the USS RUSHMORE (LSD 47) where his crew earned the coveted Battle “E” award. Additionally, he served as the Chief Staff Officer for Commander, AMPHIBIOUS SQUADRON SEVEN. Over the course of his career, Captain Tryon has deployed numerous times to the U.S. 5th, 6th, and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility.
Ashore, he served as the Surface Warfare Test and Evaluation action officer in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Surface Warfare Officer detailer at Commander, Navy Personnel Command (PERS 41), and most recently as the Global Force Management policy advisor in the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
Captain Tryon is currently serving as the USS MIGUEL KEITH (ESB 5) BLUE commanding officer.
