Lieutenant Commander Daniel Baxter, a native of Coxsackie, New York, graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marine Engineering and a US Coast Guard 3rd Assistant Engineer’s license. 

Operationally, LCDR Baxter served onboard USS FITZGERALD (DDG 62) in Yokosuka, Japan as Electronic Warfare Officer and Assistant Chief Engineer from October 2013 to November 2015. He then reported to USS SIROCCO (PC 6) in Manama, Bahrain as Operations Officer and Navigator from January 2016 to August 2017. Following Department Head School, he completed his first Department Head tour as Chief Engineer onboard USS BULKELEY (DDG 84) from April 2021 to August 2022. He completed his second Department Head tour onboard USS GRAVELY (DDG 107) as Plans and Tactics Officer from September 2022 to April 2024 and deployed with DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER Carrier Strike Group to the 5th Fleet AOR in support of Operation Prosperity Guardian. LCDR Baxter is currently serving as the Executive Officer of USS CHIEF (MCM 14). 

Ashore, LCDR Baxter attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA and graduated with a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2019. 

His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards,) Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various unit and campaign awards.
