Currently serving as the Command Master Chief onboard USS BARRY (DDG 52), Master Chief Harold Ervin is a native of Flint, Michigan and enlisted in the United States Navy from Tampa, Florida in April 2001. After graduating Recruit Training, Advanced Technical Training, and Electronics technician ‘A’ school in Great Lakes, Illinois, he attended ‘C’ school in Fort Eisenhower, Georgia.
He has served on several sea duty assignments, including a deployment with USS O’BANNON (DD-987) two Western Pacific deployments aboard USS SHOUP (DDG 86) in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom and counter piracy operations, a dry-dock overhaul and Mediterranean deployment aboard USS THE SULLIVANS (DDG 68), an 18 month Dry-Docking Planned Incremental Availability and two Western Pacific Deployments onboard USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70).
His shore tours include service as a communications technician at Naval Oceanic Processing Facility, Whidbey Island, Washington, Combat Systems ‘A’ School Lead Instructor in Great Lakes, Illinois, Detachment LCPO at Naval Communications Telecommunication Station Far East, Diego Garcia, and most recently as Code 290 Engineering Department LCPO at Southeast Regional Maintenance Center Mayport, Florida.
Master Chief Ervin is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy Class 212 (Grey). He has earned an Associate Degree of Science from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree of Science - Workforce Education and Training from Southern Illinois University.
His personal decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal (3), Navy Achievement Medal (8), and various other personal and unit awards. His qualifications include Master Training Specialist, Enlisted Surface Warfare, and Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist.
