CDR Matthew A. Harris

Commanding Officer, USS Gabrielle Giffords (LCS 10) Blue Crew

11 September 2024 Commander Matt Harris, of Houston, TX, graduated from the U.S Naval Academy in 2006 and the Naval War College in 2017.

CDR Harris served aboard USS SHREVEPORT (LPD 12) as 1st Division Officer deploying with the BATAAN ARG and 26th MEU to C5F and C6F AORs.  Upon de-commissioning USS SHREVEPORT, CDR Harris reported to USS ASHLAND (LSD-48) as Main Propulsion Division officer deploying again to C5F and C6F Fleet AORs.

CDR Harris served with RIVERINE SQUADRON TWO as a Detachment AOIC and Operations Officer.  He deployed to Al Anbar and Basra Provinces, Iraq under Regimental Combat Team-8 (USMC) and 17th FA Brigade Combat Team (USA).

CDR Harris served as Combat Systems Officer and Operations Officer with LCS CREW 101, serving onboard USS FREEDOM (LCS 1) and USS FORT WORTH (LCS 3), deploying to the C7F AOR. 

CDR Harris preceded his current Command tour as Executive Officer with USS GABRIELLE GIFFORDS (LCS 10) Blue completing a C7F deployment.

Ashore, CDR Harris served as Operations Officer for NECC’s Expeditionary Training Group, as Deputy Operations Officer for Navy Expeditionary Forces Europe-Africa (CTF-68) in Rota, Spain and at Surface Warfare Schools Command-Newport, RI as a Maritime Warfare instructor.

CDR Harris is authorized to wear the Surface Warfare Officer, Command at Sea and Small Craft insignia and has several Unit and Campaign awards.

He is married to the former Lisa Turner of Swindon, Wiltshire, England, and they have the finest son ever, Alexander (11), and an aspiring princess, Savannah (6).
