Commander Biggerstaff graduated in 2007 from Virginia Tech and began his naval career at the Officer Candidate School, Newport, Rhode Island, where he was commissioned an Ensign in 2008.
At sea, he served in USS CHAFEE (DDG 90) as Gunnery Officer and as Damage Control Assistant and in USS O’KANE (DDG 77) as Operations Officer. Most recently, he served as N3, Commander, Destroyer Squadron SEVEN, in Singapore.
Ashore CDR Biggerstaff served as First Company Officer at the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland. While there he completed Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) Phase I, while also earning his Masters of Leadership, Education, and Development from the University of Maryland through the Navy LEAD program. Following his department head tours, CDR Biggerstaff attended the IAMD Warfare Tactics Instructor (WTI) course in Dahlgren, VA. After graduating as the top intructor in his course, he served as a requirements officer in the N8/N9 branch at SMWDC IAMD. Most recently he served as the Sea Based Weapons Systems Program Element Monitor at the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) headquarters.
Commander Biggerstaff’s personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with silver star, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star, and various service and campaign awards
