His sea tours include assignments in USS MESA VERDE (LPD 19) as the Second Division Officer and Auxiliaries Officer immediately followed by his tour in USS PORTER (DDG 78) as the Damage Control Assistant. He served his Department Head tours as the Operations Officer in USS PREBLE (DDG 88) and then as the Plans and Tactics Officer aboard USS CHUNG-HOON (DDG 93). He has completed five deployments through all Fleet Areas of Responsibility conducting operations in support of the Global War of Terrorism, Operation Unified Response, and Operation Unified Protector.
Ashore assignments include duty as an in resident student at the Naval Postgraduate School earning a Master of Arts degree in National Security Affairs (Western Hemisphere) as well as completing the Naval War College Non-resident Program for Joint Professional Military Education Phase I. Following his time at NPS he served at the Surface Warfare Officer’s School in Newport, RI as the lead scheduler for the N75 / N76 Command at Sea / SOSMRC Directorate and as an instructor in Damage Control and Leadership. After completion of his Department Head assignments, he served as the Executive Assistant to the Commander, Navy Region Hawaii / Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific. Most recently, he commissioned Navy Closure Task Force – Red Hill as the Chief of Staff.
CDR Geary reported to the USS SHILOH (CG 67) in January 2025 as the Executive Officer.
He is the recipient of various personal, unit, and campaign awards, to include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards).
