CDR John Kavanagh

Commanding Officer, USS Kingsville (LCS 36)

22 May 2025 CDR John Kavanagh hails from Newport, Rhode Island, and commissioned in 2008 through Officer Candidates School. CDR Kavanagh completed sea tours as CICO/EWO in USS Elrod (FFG-55), Navigator in USS Kauffman (FFG-59), Operations Officer in USS Paul Hamilton (DDG-60), N3/N5 in COMDESRON TWO ONE, and Executive Officer in USS KINGSVILLE (LCS-36).  While assigned to sea duty, CDR Kavanagh deployed to C5F, C6F, and C7F.

Ashore assignments include the Navy Ceremonial Guard, the NAVSEA Naval Special Warfare Program Office (PMS 340), SMWDC Sea Combat Division as a ZULU WTI, and the PEO C4I Cyber Security Program Office (PMW 130).  CDR Kavanagh attended Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fl, holds a Masters of Business Administration from Indiana University, and completed JPME Phase I.
