CMDCM Christopher F. Tornay is a native of San Francisco, California. He enlisted in the Navy on 12 August 2005 and attended Basic Training at Recruit Training Command in Great lakes, Illinois. Following the completion of Recruit Training Command, he attended Basic Engineering Common Core in Great Lakes, Illinois.
His sea duty assignments include USS LASSEN (DDG 82), USS PINCKNEY (DDG 91), USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70), PCD/USS KANSAS CITY (LCS 22), USS JACKSON (LCS 6) BLUE CREW, USS MAKIN ISLAND (LHD 8), USS CHARLESTON (LCS 18) and USS GRIDLEY (DDG 101).
During his sea duty assignments Master Chief Tornay completed 9 deployments. He completed 3 deployments to the 5th fleet AOR and 6 deployments to the 7th fleet AOR. His ashore assignment was Afloat Training Group in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
Master Chief Tornay graduated from the United States Navy Senior Enlisted Academy in September 2022 and the Command master Chief/Chief of the Boat Leadership course in September 2023. He reported to USS GRIDLEY (DDG 101) in May 2025 and currently serves as Command Master Chief.
His personal and unit awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (three awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
