Commander Matthew Intoccia is a native of Collegeville, Pennsylvania. He commissioned in 2009 upon graduation from the United States Naval Academy, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. He later earned a Master's in International Public Policy from Johns Hopkins University as a Politico-Military Scholar.

Previous sea assignments include tours as Combat Electronics Officer in USS JOHN S. McCAIN (DDG 56), Navigation Officer in USS MOMSEN (DDG 92), Weapons Officer in USS JOHN S. McCAIN (DDG 56) and Operations Officer in USS LAKE CHAMPLAIN (CG 57). He commanded USS TEMPEST (PC 2) forward deployed in U.S. FIFTH Fleet from 2020-2022; earning multiple unit commendations including the Battle Effectiveness Award.

While ashore he served on the staff of the Director of Intelligence and Information Sharing (DIIS) in the Naval Criminal Investigative Service as an Intelligence Analyst and on the Chief of Naval Operations staff in the Surface Warfare Directorate (N96) as the Requirements Officer for Modernization and Operations.


His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
