Senior Chief Kimberly R. Burns, a native of Jones, Alabama, graduated from Billingsley High School in May of 2007 and departed for Navy Recruit Training Command in July 2007.  Upon completion of basic training, she attended Personnel Specialist “A” school in Meridian, MS. She then reported to her first assignment NAF Atsugi, Japan 2007 During this tour, she advanced to Petty Officer Third Class.  

In November of 2010 she reported to Strike Fighter Squadron Eight-Three (VFA 83) where she served as the Personnel Supervisor. While assigned to VFA 83, she completed a Deployment in support Operation Enduring Freedom in the Middle East onboard USS DWIGHT D. EISHNEHOWER (CVN 69). 

In January of 2013, she transferred to CSD Vaihingen in Stuttgart, Germany where she served as Customer Service LPO.  During her tour she received her associate’s degree in business management in 2014 and advanced to Petty Officer First Class.

In May of 2015 she transferred to USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) Norfolk, Virginia. She did a three-carrier hull swap and took the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT to San Diego, California. While onboard she served as the Personnel LPO and Deputy Disbursing Officer. During her 2nd Deployment from 2017-2018 in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, she was screened and selected for orders to CAMP DAVID. 

In May of 2018 She reported onboard Naval Support Facility Thurmont, Maryland (CAMP DAVID) as the Personnel Officer.  During this tour she was selected to Chief Petty Officer.   

In April of 2021 she transferred to USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) San Diego, California. During this tour she received her bachelor’s degree in business management- Entrepreneurship and Small Businesses. She was also selected to Senior Chief Petty Officer. 

In June of 2024 she reported to Naval Special Warfare Command, where she served as the Force Personnel Specialist and subsequently being selected for the Command Senior Enlisted Program in March 2025. 

In June 2025, CMDCS Burns reported as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader of USS MIGUEL KEITH (ESB 5) Gold Crew where she currently serves. 

CMDCS Burns has attended the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 260, Gray), CMC/COB school (Class 25110). She is designated as Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Aviation Warfare Specialist, and Information Dominance Warfare qualified. 

Her decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5), and other unit and service awards. She has also completed two USMAP Certifications from the Department of Labor.
