Command Master Chief Shaven L. Savoy, a native of Crowley, Louisiana, enlisted in the United States Navy in February 1997. Following completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, he completed Airman Apprenticeship Training School in May 1997.
Upon graduation, he reported for duty onboard PCU HARRY S. TRUMAN, homeported in Newport News, Virginia, in June 1997. His sea tours include USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73), based in Norfolk, Virginia; USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70), homeported in San Diego, California, and later returned to USS HARRY S. TRUMAN. In October 2021, Command Master Chief Savoy reported to USS IWO JIMA (LHD 7), based in Norfolk, Virginia, where he served as the Air Department Leading Chief Petty Officer. During his tour aboard Iwo Jima, he volunteered for an individual augmentee assignment to Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, Africa, where he was selected to fill in as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader. Master Chief Savoy transferred in March 2024 and then reported aboard USS MAKIN ISLAND (LHD 8) for duty as AIR Department Leading Chief Petty Officer.
His shore assignments include Navy Support Facility Thurmont (Camp David), Thurmont, Maryland, and U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard, Washington, D.C., as Commander of Troops. He led high visibility diplomatic events and ceremonies for the President of the United States, Secretary of Defense, Secretary of the Navy, Chief of Naval Operations, and the Commandant, Naval District Washington.
Master Chief Savoy’s decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal (seven awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), and various unit and campaign awards. He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy (SEA) Class 230, “Golden Squids.” He has earned the Enlisted Airfare Warfare and Surface Warfare insignias.
