Commander Craney is a native of La Crescenta, California. He graduated and was commissioned from the United States Naval Academy in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics. He has earned a Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Explosive Engineering from New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. He is currently serving as the Deputy Commander of Mine Countermeasures Group THREE in San Diego, CA.
Craney served operationally at EOD Mobile Unit ELEVEN, EOD Mobile Unit EIGHT, Naval Expeditionary Combat Forces Central, FIFTH Fleet, and Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit ONE. While at these units he deployed aboard the USS John C. Stennis, served on U.S. European Commander’s Crisis Response Force, supported multiple operations in the USCENTCOM area of responsibility, and served as an executive officer in support of Commander THIRD Fleet’s ready salvage capability.
Craney’s shore assignments include serving as the EOD Mobile Unit TWO Detachment Crane Officer in Charge, as an action officer at Navy Expeditionary Warfighting Development Center, as the Counter Weapons of Mass Destruction cross functional team lead at Special Operations Command Pacific, and as an action officer in the Joint Staff’s Directorate for Strategy, Plans, and Policy’s.
He is a recipient of the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Joint Achievement Medal, and Army Achievement Medal.
