Commander Ryan McCarthy is a native of Alexandria, VA. He graduated from California State University Channel Islands, Camarillo, CA with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and a Bachelor of Arts in Managerial Economics and was commissioned an Ensign in 2008. Additionally, in 2017 he completed his Executive Master of Business Administration from the Naval Post-Graduate School, Monterey, CA.
CDR McCarthy completed operational flying tours with the HSC-21 “Blackjacks” and HSC-23 “Wildcards”. During these tours he completed deployments with the 2515th Naval Air Ambulance Detachment, USS Boxer (LHD-4), and USS Jackson (LCS-6) in the 5th and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility (AOR). His non-flying operational tour was completed on the USS Anchorage (LPD-23) where he served as the Fuels Officer, Safety Officer, and Air Officer in the 5th and 6th Fleet AOR. During this tour, he also earned his Officer of the Deck (OOD) qualification.
His shore tours included a flight instructor tour with the HT-18 “Factory Hands” and HSC-3 “Merlins” where he served as the Chief Staff Officer and Training Officer.
He currently serves as the Operations Officer at Mine Countermeasures Group Three in San Diego.
CDR McCarthy has accumulated over 2,700 flight hours in multiple type/model/series aircraft. His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards) and various other campaign and service medals.
