CDR Jonathan Noda

CHIEF STAFF OFFICER, Surface Development Group One (SURFDEVGRU 1)

02 February 2026 Commander Jon Noda is a 2007 graduate of the University of Washington with a Bachelor’s Degree in International Studies and was commissioned through the NROTC program. He holds a Master’s Degree in Security Studies from Georgetown University.

At sea, Commander Noda served as First Lieutenant in USS CURTS (FFG 38), Damage Control Assistant in USS JOHN PAUL JONES (DDG 53), Chief Engineer in USS PINCKNEY (DDG 91) and Staff Director and Material Officer (N4) for Commander, Destroyer Squadron NINE. He served as Executive Officer in USS CHAFEE (DDG 90) before assuming Command in June 2024. He has deployed three times to the Arabian Gulf.

Ashore, Commander Noda served as a Seamanship and Navigation Instructor at the United States Naval Academy, a Congressional Appropriations Liaison for the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Financial Management and Comptroller), and Unmanned Surface Vessel Department Head for Surface Development Squadron ONE – leading USV fleet development and operations.

He is a recipient of various personal and campaign awards including the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, and Navy Achievement Medal.
