CDR Tom Hoffman

Commanding Officer, USS Kansas City (LCS 22)

27 February 2026 CDR Tom Hoffman is a native of Allentown, PA and 2007 graduate of Drexel University. He earned his commission through the University of Pennsylvania NROTC program. Tom earned a Master of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies from the US Naval War College and a Master of Science in Joint Campaign Planning and Strategy from the Joint Advanced Warfighting School, National Defense University.

Tom is a qualified Surface Warfare Officer. His sea tours include Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer onboard USS VELLA GULF (CG 72), Damage Control Assistant onboard USS BULKELEY (DDG 84), Engineer Officer onboard USS STOUT (DDG 55), and in Forward Deployed Naval Forces Europe (FDNF-E) as Materiel and Logistics Officer (N4) and Special Projects Officer (N00Z) to Destroyer Squadron SIX ZERO and Commander, Task Force SIX FIVE, homeported in Rota, Spain. Most recently, he served as Executive Officer onboard the Battle “E” winning cruiser USS GETTYSBURG (CG 64). He has deployed multiple times to the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea, and Arabian Gulf in support of Theater Ballistic Missile Defense missions, the Global War of Terror, and Operation Inherent Resolve.

Ashore, Tom served as Assistant Officer-in-Charge and staff instructor at the Basic Division Officer Course in Norfolk, VA, where he earned Master Training Specialist qualification. Subsequently he served as the Academic Director for Navigation and Ship handling Directorate (N72) at Surface Warfare Schools Command in Newport, RI. He has completed Joint Professional Military Education Phases I and II.

Tom has been fortunate to serve alongside exceptional Sailors whose team efforts were recognized with multiple Battle “E” awards, Meritorious Unit Commendations, and campaign awards.
