Senior Chief Gary R. Spigarelli II is a native of Carnegie, Oklahoma.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and completed Boot Camp in Great Lakes, Illinois in 2003.  

After completing Basic Enlisted Submarine School (BESS) in Groton, Connecticut and Electronics Technician (Radio) ‘A’ School in Bangor, Washington, he reported to his first duty assignment onboard the USS Pennsylvania (SSBN 735) (Blue Crew) in 2004 at Bangor Naval Submarine Base, Washington. Here he completed 10 Trident Deterrent Patrols and earned his Silver Dolphins.  

Upon completion of his first tour onboard the USS Pennsylvania in 2009, he reported to Naval Communications Strategic Communications Unit (NCTSCU) in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This command is where was selected for 1st Class Petty Officer and assumed the duties as the Leading Petty Officer (LPO). While stationed at NCTSCU he completed 12 Ground Mobile Strategic Communication deployments and spearheaded the development and implementation of the command’s Information Warfare (IW) program. His efforts were recognized by Fleet Cyber Forces as one of the best IW programs in the Navy. 

In 2012 he was selected for Chief Petty Officer and reported back to Naval Submarine Base, Groton where he completed 12 courses in preparation for assuming the duties as a Submarine Radio Leading Chief Petty Officer (LCPO). Upon completion Electronics Technician (ETC) Spigarelli was medically disqualified from Submarine Service and was approved for a rate conversion to Information Systems Technician (ITC). 

In 2015 he reported to the USS Bonhomme Richard (BHR), home ported in Sasebo, Japan, where he assumed the duties as the Radio LCPO and EKMS Manager. His focus on maintenance and training led to his division being identified by ATG West Pac as the most capable and well-trained division in Japan. While onboard he also completed his Surface and Air warfare qualifications. 

Upon completion of his Forward Deployed Naval Forces (FDNF) tour in 2017 he reported to Strategic Communications Wing One, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where he was hand-selected to build and implement the command’s new N9 Mobile Communications Department. He oversaw the department’s growth from 32 to 86 personnel, an increase in over $106M dollars worth of equipment, and the acquisition of seven Nuclear Command and Control (NC2) assets. In 2018 he was selected for promotion to Senior Chief Petty Officer.

In 2021 he attended Spectrum Manager School in Biloxi, MS and reported to his current command COMPHIBRON ELEVEN to assume the duties as the Amphibious Readiness Group America’s Spectrum Manager. Upon reporting he immediately assumed the duties as the Commands Senior Enlisted Leader, and N6A Communications Department Chief.

Senior Chief Spigarelli is authorized to wear the Joint Navy and Marine Corp Commendation Medal,  Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (eight awards), and various unit/campaign awards.
