The mighty USS SHOUP welcomes to its deck plates one of our newest crewmates: Culinary Specialist Seaman Recruit Hylton. CSSR Hylton hails from Jamaica, and checked onboard USS SHOUP in March 2023. CSSR was quickly recognized for her quality service which she describes as endeavoring “to treat everyone who comes to eat with care, love, and respect”.
Hylton plans to take the lessons she learns in the Navy to improve herself, by helping to foster a proper work ethic prior to joining the civilian workforce as a Nurse. When asked what inspires her, she stated “Looking back at where I came from and not wanting to go back there, to be the best possible version of myself”. Hylton had nothing but positive things to say about her experience onboard USS SHOUP so far describing her leadership as “easy to talk to” going further to say “If there is anything wrong, something I need to talk about, or need help with something, they are always ready to listen and do anything they can or need to in order to help resolve or fix the issue” stating “they won’t stop until the problem is gone”.
Hylton is currently working on her Damage Control and 3M qualifications. Her plan is to transition to the civilian sector and attend nursing school to provide a better life for herself and her family back home.
What in your job gives you the most satisfaction?
“Baking and decorating”
How do you spend your free time?
“I like to listen to music and watch movies”
