PACIFIC OCEAN (February 10, 2024) — The guided-missile destroyer USS Russell (DDG 59) breaks away from the Henry J. Kaiser-class fleet replenishment oiler USNS Pecos after refueling. The evolution kicked off the Russell's 2024 and was a simultaneous evolution with the Zumwalt Class Guided Missile Destroyer USS Michael Monsoor. SAN DIEGO (February 10, 2024) — The guided-missile destroyer USS Russell (DDG 59) is a proud member of the historic Little Beavers of Commander, Destroyer Squadron 23 (COMDESRON 23) as evidenced by the squadron's emblem affixed to Russell's superstructure. During World War II, the squadron became legendary under then Capt. Arleigh Burke during the Pacific Campaign and was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation.
