Balikatan is an annual exercise between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and U.S. military designed to strengthen bilateral interoperability, capabilities, trust, and cooperation built over decades shared experiences. Balikatan, Tagalog for 'shoulder-to-shoulder,' is a longstanding bilateral exercise between the Philippines and the United States highlighting the deep-rooted partnership between both countries. Balikatan 22 is the 37th iteration of the exercise and coincides with the 75th anniversary of U.S.-Philippine security cooperation.

PACIFIC OCEAN (May 13, 2021) Littoral combat ship USS Coronado (LCS 4), Coast Guard Cutter Robert Ward (WPC-1130), Mexican Navy offshore patrol vessel ARM Revolucion (P 164), Royal Canadian Navy Kingston-class coastal defense vessel HMCS Saskatoon (MM 709) and Royal Canadian Navy Kingston-class coastal defense vessel HMCS Brandon (MM 710) sail in formation during North American Maritime Security Initiative (NAMSI). NAMSI is the tri-lateral forum among Canada, Mexico and the United States to strengthen operational effectiveness in the pursuit of maritime security.
