USS Antietam Decommissions, While the Crew Remains Antietam

240927-N-DA563-1908 HONOLULU (September 27, 2024) – The crew departs the ship for the last time during the decommissioning ceremony of Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Antietam (CG 54). Commissioned in Baltimore, Maryland on May 22, 1987, Antietam completes its service after 37 years. Modern U.S. Navy guided-missile cruisers perform multiple mission including Air Warfare (AW), Undersea Warfare (USW), Naval Surface Fire Support (NSFS) and Surface Warfare (SUW) surface combatants capable of supporting carrier battle groups, amphibious forces or operating independently and as flagships of surface action groups.
