PCD Harrisburg (LPD 30)

“Let Justice Be Done.”

Mission Statement: USS Harrisburg (LPD 30) is 14th San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship (LPD) of the United States Navy. She is a warship that embarks, transports, and lands elements of a Marine Corps landing force for a variety of expeditionary warfare missions, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief. She will provide the Navy and Marine Corps with modern, sea-based platform that is networked, survivable, and built to operate with 21st-century transformational platforms such as air-cushioned landing craft (MV-22). Harrisburg (LPD 30) is the first LPD Flight II ship.

Crest: The wreath adopts the first-named metal and color from the shield and blazon.

The eagle is a patriotic symbol of strength and authority, and it further shows the longstanding ties between the military forces, Harrisburg, and the state of Pennsylvania.

Behind it, the light blue starburst emphasizes its power and authority. The fourteen stars

represent the USS HARRISBURG (LPD 30) as the 14th San Antonion-class amphibious

transport dock ship. It’s a war ship that embarks, transports, and lands elements of a

Marine Corps landing force for a variety of expeditionary warfare missions, humanitarian

assistance, and disaster relief.

 

The history behind our ship is the capital city of Pennsylvania, in recognition of its rich history and enduring support for the United States military. From its beginning as a trading outpost, HARRISBURG has been instrumental in the nation’s industrial development, playing critical roles during the Westward Migration, the American Civil War and the Industrial Revolution.

 

Keystone: Identifies the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and is representative on the city flag of the namesake Harrisburg, PA.

Colors: The colors of blue, gold, red and white, are all taken from the city flag as well as being the colors of the United States of America, the Navy and Marine Corps.

Trident: The trident denoting connection to the sea and maritime expertise.

Mountain Laurel Flowers: The 2 mountain laurel flowers (kalmia latifolia) honor the two USS HARRISBURGs (both ID#1665 and LPD 30) heritage, perseverance and successes.

Swords: The Navy and Marine Corps swords backing the keystone represent the entirety of the USS HARRISBURG crew, their support to its mission and their unity through combat readiness and honor.

Deer: The white tail deer with antlers signifies strength, authority, and further shows the long-standing ties between the military forces, Harrisburg, and the state of Pennsylvania.
