CDR Roberts is a native of Lake Stevens, Washington and was commissioned from the University of Washington NROTC in May, 2003.
At sea, he served as a division officer in USS MASON (DDG 87) and USS WHIDBEY ISLAND (LSD 41). As a department head he served as Operations Officer in USS JOHN S. McCAIN (DDG 56) homeported in Yokosuka, Japan and as Operations Officer (N3) on the staff of Commander, Task Force 65/Commander, Destroyer Squadron 60 in Naples, Italy. Following his department head tours, he commanded USS ZEPHYR (PC 8).
Ashore, CDR Roberts served as the Navy representative to the Defense Business Board at the Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD), a Federal Executive Fellow at the RAND Corporation, a surface warfare tactics analyst at the Office of Naval Intelligence, and a navigation and shiphandling instructor at the Surface Warfare Officer School (SWOS). Most recently, he served as Congressional Liaison for the Surface Warfare Division (N96) on the Chief of Naval Operations' Staff (OPNAV).
CDR Roberts holds a Master of Policy Management from Georgetown University, a Certificate in International Affairs from the Johns Hopkins University (SAIS), and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Washington.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, and Navy Achievement Medal.
CDR Roberts reported onboard RALPH JOHNSON in September 2019 and served as Executive Officer until April 2021.
