Received his GED from Independent Hill Academy in Woodbridge Va and joined the Navy in January 2001. He attended boot camp in Great Lakes Ill. After boot camp he attended Ship Serviceman’s school in Meridian Mississippi. After graduating from SH “A” School, he reported to his first duty station onboard the USS Nassau homeported Norfolk Va. In May 2001.
Onboard USS Nassau, he served as the DCPO for S-3 Division and spent a year TAD to the Ship’ Self Defense Force (SSDF). While onboard he earned his ESWS pin and advanced to Petty Officer Third Class. In January 2005, he left USS Nassau to attend IT”A” School in Naval Station Great Lakes. After graduating IT “A” School, he joined the “Rampagers” Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 83 from Jun 2005 to Jun 2006 where he embarked onboard the USS Eisenhower CVN 69. While onboard VFA 83 he earned his EAWS pin and advanced to Petty Second Class. After VFA 83, he went to shore duty at Commander Naval Air Forces Atlantic and served as the Message Center Supervisor. While at COMNAVAIRLANT, he volunteered for an Individual Augmentee in Herat Afghanistan from Oct 2008 to Nov 2009. After returning from Afghanistan, he eventually transferred from COMNAVAIRLANT in Oct 2010 to the USS George Washington CVN 73, homeported in Yokosuka Japan and served onboard from 2010 to Dec 2013. While onboard he advanced to Petty Officer First Class in 2012 and served as the ADP LPO and Cableway LPO during the 2013 Selected Restricted Availability. He earned his IW pin while onboard USS George Washington.
After the USS George Washington, he became a Recruit Division Commander at RTC Great Lakes where he was advanced to Chief Petty Officer in 2015. He served as the Separations LCPO and earned the Senior Instructor of the Year Award. He also earned his Distinguish Leadership Award and his Master Training Specialist designation while at RTC Great Lakes. In November 2017 Senior Chief’s Smith next tour at PRECOMUNIT Tripoli where he was as a Plankowner onboard USS Tripoli. Onboard USS Tripoli he served as the COMMs LCPO and KMI Manager. He advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer on June 2019. While onboard he helps establish the ship’s first Urinalysis Program as the Command’s first Urinalysis Program Coordinator and the Combat Systems Training Team as the first CSTT team trainer onboard. He joined the COMPHIBRON team embarked on USS Essex in December 2020.
Senior Chief is a graduate of Senior Enlisted Academy class 237 Green Group, His personal awards include Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), Combat Action Ribbon and other various service awards.
