USS John L. Canley to Commission in San Diego
NAVAL BASE SAN DIEGO (Dec. 14, 2023) Rear Adm. Yvette Davids, acting Commander, Naval Surface Forces, U.S. Pacific Fleet and Capt. Gil Clark, inaugural commander of Naval Surface Group Southwest, cut the ribbon during the command establishment ceremony. The ceremony marked the formal establishment of CNSG Southwest, which joins Surface Readiness Groups currently established in Japan, Hawaii, Norfolk and Mayport. This new command’s mission is managing ship activities in the maintenance and basic phase, enforcing the readiness assessment and certification process within those phases, while closely coordinating with each ship's operational commander until certified Basic Phase Complete (BPC).
