While the War Dragon is deployed, our team serves as the primary liaison between CHOSIN families and the command. As ombudsman, we offer a friendly voice to turn to. You can call us 24 hours a day in an emergency situation. We are the voice of the families to the command. Please email us for the latest official information, when available.

How can the Chosin Ombudsman help you?
  • Ombudsmen serve as the primary link/liaison between CHOSIN families and the command.
  • Providing a friendly voice to turn to, Ombudsmen serve as communicators of information between the command and families.
  • As an official representative of USS CHOSIN, the Ombudsmen, a volunteer team, have the ability to “link” families/sailors into the right source of help, and to guide the otherwise shy or reluctant person to the service or agency they need.
  • Ombudsmen are spouses of one of the Command’s active duty members.
  • Ombudsmen are the tool for passing along information, such as deployment program information, resource materials available in the civilian or military community, and can assist in emergency situations.
  • Ombudsmen have an understanding of the military lifestyle and can act as mentors.
  • Ombudsmen are available 24/7 for emergency, however, please keep routine calls between the hours of 9:00am-5:00pm.
  • If you are having a true emergency please don’t hesitate to call us outside of those times; we are more than happy to help you.

USS CHOSIN (CG 65) Command Ombudsman Deployment Ideas

Create a memory box, put items such as report cards, special art projects, or items that the Sailor would like to see in a box to send at half way or share upon return.

  • Utilize the email/snail mail communication. In the age of technology, old fashion handwritten letters have gone to the side, try handwriting a letter to your sailor for that special touch.

  • Put together care packages. See May 2007 newsletter for great care package ideas.

  • Take snapshots of family events or outings that you normally would not because your Sailor would be there. This keeps them involved in the activities even from across the sea. Include those via email or care packages so they have memories from home.

  • Do simple things to countdown the days: lollipop trees, Sailor map (track the trip to and return on a large map), kiss jars, paper chains, number of paydays, etc. It will help the time pass.

USS CHOSIN (CG 65) Command Ombudsman - The CHOSIN Circle

CHOSIN Families,

We would like to invite you to participate in a wonderful opportunity! Please consider offering to assist our CHOSIN Families by joining the CHOSIN Circle. The CHOSIN Circle is a group of individuals that have chosen to support others in need during emergencies or urgent situations. These volunteers will probably not be recognized for their deeds. Assistance may have to remain anonymous to protect the confidentiality of the receiver. One of the Ombudsmen team may call or e-mail you if a specific need should arise. This is especially important now while the CHOSIN will be underway for a long period of time.

If you are interested in providing a meal, delivery, a ride, babysitting, errand running, or some other unlisted service, please contact our ombudsmen.

The Ombudsmen Team appreciates your support!
