The MUSTIN Command Ombudsman is a valuable resource for married and single, accompanied and unaccompanied Sailors.  The information and referral services that the Ombudsman provides not only helps to ease the transition for you and any family members you may be bringing with you but also provides support and comfort to those friends and family members you may be leaving behind.  Your spouse, parents, and friends can contact the MUSTIN Command Ombudsman via email at USSMUSTIN.OMBUDSMAN@GMAIL.COM or mustinombudsman@yahoo.com

For those that are married and travelling on accompanied orders, ensure that you have powers of attorney for your spouse.  Many services, including setting up phone service, registering a vehicle, accepting your household goods delivery, and housing office business require your spouse to have a power of attorney, with raised seal, to execute them in your absence. To get more information on your inbound personal property shipment and to obtain your household goods, contact the Personal Property Office at Naval Station San Diego. Their phone number is (619) 556-MOVE (6683).

If you will be traveling with dependents, make reservations at the Navy Lodge well in advance, even with a general travel itinerary.  You can make adjustments to details as your travel itinerary solidifies, but The Navy Lodge fills up fast, so acting well in advance is important. The ship may be underway when you report. If this occurs and you are traveling without dependents, report to Transient Personnel Unit (TPU), Bldg 56, located at Naval Station San Diego. They will provide you with assistance for reporting to the ship. You can also contact TPU at (619) 556-5272. Addition information about San Diego can also be found at http://cnic.navy.mil/regions/cnrsw.html.

There is ample public transportation in the San Diego area. Bus and taxi service is available almost around the clock, as well as a comprehensive San Diego Trolley system. A base shuttle is available and stops at all points of interest on the naval base including piers, exchanges, PSD, barracks, clubs, and fitness centers. Numerous area maps are available from the Fleet and Family Service Center located on the hill across from the Naval Base Exchange.
