USS San Diego (LPD 22)

“Semper Vigilants”, America’s Finest Warship

WELCOME ABOARD LETTER/MESSAGE FROM CO:
Congratulations on your assignment to the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS SAN DIEGO (LPD 22). Your accomplishments and championship team qualities make you a perfect candidate for our team. You decided to swear an oath for your country and are now joining a FAMILY, America’s Finest Warship!

The USS SAN DIEGO was commissioned May 19th, 2012 and is the third United States Navy ship to be named for the city and bay of San Diego, California. Our ship's name results in a close connection to the incredible people of San Diego, California, and their numerous professional sports teams to include the Padres, Wave, Gulls, and Seals! We served in our namesake city from May 2012 until July 2024, before homeport shifting to the beautiful city of Sasebo, Japan.

Our primary mission is to conduct expeditionary operations and serve as a ready-response force throughout the Indo-Pacific region. Our Navy and Marine Corps team work seamlessly alongside each other to increase warfighting readiness and strengthen international partnerships by conducting diverse mission sets from combat training and humanitarian assistance to forcible entry operations and disaster relief. Our presence reassures partners and allies, promotes regional security, and reinforces the standards of rules-based order.

Once again, congratulations on your assignment and welcome aboard! I look forward to meeting you and we are excited to add you to our family. Please let me know if there is anything we can do to help your transition to our team.

                                                                                                           Stay Classy,
                                                                                                           CAPT T. Carter
