This is a challenging assignment, but it is a great command that will be very rewarding for you. BMU ONE, NAB CORONADO 

San Diego has an International Airport with flights arriving day and night from a multitude of cities. Naval Amphibious Base Coronado is located approximately 15 minutes from the airport. Contacting BMU ONE in advance may afford you a ride from the duty driver. If reporting on a weekend, contact BMU ONE Command Duty Officer at 619-993-3724. 

 

Directions 

From San Diego: From Interstate 5, take the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge to Coronado. Turn left on to Orange Avenue (Hwy 75). Continue straight, you will pass the Hotel Del Coronado on your right. You will see a sign directing you to turn left into Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, Main Gate. Continue straight through the gate and you will see the Beachmaster Unit ONE sign on your left when you pass the Navy Exchange. From Imperial Beach: Follow 75 North to Coronado. Follow signs for NAB Coronado and directions above. 

 

Reporting 

Report in your dress uniform to the BMU ONE quarterdeck. Your sponsor or a member of the onboarding team will meet you and assist you in checking in.

Ombudsman

The Beachmaster Unit ONE Ombudsman is a trained volunteer appointed by the Commanding Officer and serves as a liaison between families and the command. The Ombudsman assists our families by providing them with information about, and referrals to, available military and civilian resources and support. The Ombudsman also keeps BMU-1 families up to date with what is going on at the command.

The Ombudsman communicates with our families in different ways. ONE way is through the monthly BMU-1 Ombudsman Newsletter. You can start receiving the newsletter by contacting the Ombudsman and requesting to be put on our mailing list. MISSION AND ORGANIZATION 

Beachmaster Unit ONE, located at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, California, is a subordinate command of Naval Beach Group ONE. Other commands in this group are Assault Craft Unit ONE, Amphibious Construction Battalion ONE, and Assault Craft Unit FIVE. Together these units provide the capability of moving combat troops and equipment ashore from ships at sea and provide the beach logistical support once these troops are established on the beach. Beachmaster Unit ONE is the Naval Element of the Landing Force Support Party (LFSP).

The mission of BMU ONE is to support the landing of troops, equipment and supplies, and to facilitate the evacuation of casualties and prisoners of war. In addition, the Beachmasters maintain communications and liaison with designated naval commanders and naval control units, control all craft and amphibious vehicles in the vicinity of the beach from the surf line to the high water mark, coordinate the re-embarkation of equipment, troops and supplies, determine and advise on the suitability for landing, control boat salvage, keep appropriate Navy commanders appraised of wind and surf conditions, install causeway beaching range markers and range lights, and assist in the defense of the beach.
