Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) returned to its homeport of Naval Base San Diego following a three-month underway to the U.S. 3rd Fleet and 7th Fleet areas of operations, June 19.

SAN DIEGO – Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) returned to its homeport of Naval Base San Diego following a seven-month underway to the U.S. 3rd, 5th, and 7th Fleet areas of operation, Jan. 6, 2026. While underway, Fitzgerald conducted a wide range of operations, including routine presence patrols and maritime security operations.

The U.S. Navy and Bangladesh Navy conducted Naval Engagement Activity (NEA) Bangladesh 2025 in Chattogram, Bangladesh, Oct. 8-10, encompassing three days of enhanced training and collaboration focused on shared maritime security challenges in the region.

Sailors are a ship’s first line of defense against system failures. But when the issue requires a subject matter expert (SME), repairs have often had to wait until a technician could travel to the ship.

Chief Fire Controlman Gary Rehm, Gunner’s Mate 1st Class Noe Hernandez, Personnel Specialist 1st Class Xavier A. Martin, Fire Controlman 1st Class Carlos V. Sibayan, Yeoman 3rd Class Shingo A. Douglass, Sonar Technician (Surface) 3rd Class Ngoc “Tan” Truong and Gunner’s Mate Seaman Dakota K. Rigsby all lost their lives in the subsequent flooding that took place in their berthing.

For the first time in twenty-seven years, the Fitzgerald family conducted a visit onboard the legendary destroyer named after their father and grandfather, LT William Fitzgerald.

Forces from the Royal Australian Navy, Royal Canadian Navy, Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, Republic of Korea Navy, U.S Missile Defense Agency, and U.S Navy successfully conducted Pacific Dragon 2022 (PD22), a recurring biennial multinational air and missile defense exercise, from August 5-15, 2022, in Hawaii at Pacific Missile Range Facility Barking Sands (PMRF) and off the coast of Kauai.

PHILIPPINE SEA – Five years after the collision that took the lives of seven Sailors, the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) and her crew held a remembrance ceremony for the fallen while on deployment in U.S. 7th Fleet.

USS Fitzgerald and a P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft VP-47, joined with ships, aircraft and personnel from India and other navies to begin Exercise Milan 2022.

The Naval Oceanographic Anti-Submarine Warfare Center (NOAC) embarked a team of Aerographer’s Mates to lend expertise onboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) as it participated in a bilateral training exercises, Ship Anti-Submarine Warfare Readiness Effectiveness Measuring (SHAREM) program, with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) from Jan. 26–31.
