MANAMA, Bahrain — The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Stethem (DDG 63) recently demonstrated expansive maritime domain awareness, utilizing Flexrotor unmanned aerial vehicles during operations in the Gulf of Oman, Nov. 8-9.

MANAMA, Bahrain — Two brothers, deployed on two ships currently operating in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations, got a rare chance to catch up face-to-face Aug. 18 during an equipment transfer between their ships.

INDIAN OCEAN — The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Stethem (DDG 63) conducted a Cooperative Deployment (CODEP) with the Indian Navy following the ship’s port visit to Goa, India, on July 18.

Family and friends gathered together for a change of command ceremony at Naval Base San Diego where Commander James Watts relieved Commander Bryan Hart as Commanding Officer of USS Stethem (DDG 63). In attendance at the ceremony was Robert Stethem’s Father, and retired Navy Senior Chief, Richard Stethem.

Steelworkers of USS Stethem hosted the Stethem family during their visit for a tour of the destroyer and had the incredible opportunity to connect with the family. Robert Stethem’s younger brother, Patrick Stethem, was joined by his wife Katherine, daughters Genevieve and Gabi, as well as his son, who is also named Robert Stethem, after the American hero.

Capt. Elaine A. Collins, a native of Shoreline, Wash. was relieved by Capt. Adam L. Fleming as commander, Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 9 during a change of command ceremony at Naval Station Everett, Jan. 14.

Steelworkers of USS Stethem and Seabees of Amphibious Construction Battalion 1 gathered together to honor the 36th anniversary of the passing of American hero Robert Dean Stethem during a memorial ceremony held onboard the destroyer in Naval Base San Diego.
