USS Portland (LPD 27)

Amphibious transport dock USS Portland (LPD 27) retrieved the Artemis I Orion spacecraft in coordination with multiple organizations including NASA, U.S. Space Command, fellow U.S. Navy ship Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Montgomery (LCS 8), Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC 23), and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Expeditionary Support Unit (EODESU) 1, Dec. 11.

Sailors and Marines worked in collaboration with first responders from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and with the city and county of Los Angeles during a Defense Support of Civil Authority (DSCA) exercise held in conjunction with Los Angeles Fleet Week (LAFW), May 24.

Sailors, Marines, Soldiers, and Coast Guardsmen from several ships, squadrons and military units will be in Los Angeles for the fifth Los Angeles Fleet Week, May 24-30.

SAN DIEGO — The San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS Portland (LPD 27) held a change of command ceremony in San Diego, Dec. 19. Capt. Karrey Sanders relieved Capt. Jesus Rodriguez after his 15-month tour as commanding officer.
